Lisboa is the capital of Portugal, and has been such since 1255. It's the oldest city in Western Europe, it has a mediterranean climate and around 2,7 million people inhabit its metropolitan area. It's nickname is "A Cidade das Sete Colinas" and, just like most of the country, it has a very close relationship with the sea. Meandering towards the New World, the Tejo river makes an estuary that bathes the city's shores, over which lies the longest bridge in Europe.

Lagos is one of the most visited cities in the Algarve region, which encompasses the whole south area of Portugal and is bathed by the Mediterrean Sea. It has breathtaking rock formations where the land meets the sea, and it was in the old days a very important city for the Descobrimentos due to its location. Nowadays, it thrives on tourists during the summer time due to the paradisiac climate, amazing landscapes and relatively cheap prices.

Açores is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands and situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a wet and cloudy weather, and since it was settled sporadically over several centuries, it ended up with very different dialects, cuisine and traditions from the rest of the country. Its natural landscapes are unparallelled in the rest of Europe due to its different climate and volcanic origins.

The second largest city in the country, Porto has a population of 1,4 million people. Its gray weather and dark buildings contrast with Lisboa's light and colourful streets, but its beauty is unparallelled and enhanced by a balanced mix of classical and modern architecture. Its roots date back to the year 300 BC. Currently, it's mostly known for its wine and cultural heritage. The name "Oporto" by which is commonly known internationally comes from the misinterpretation of the article "o" (singular masculine) used by the Portuguese before the name of the city ("o Porto").

Historically a fishermen town, Aveiro developed into a thriving city over the centuries and is still a very important seaport to this day. Located near the shore, it has an intricate system of canals and traditional boats that navigate them. Because of that, it's commonly known as "A Veneza de Portugal". It's urban agglomeration is home to 120,000 people, making it the second largest city of the center of Portugal.

Alentejo has a very characteristic landscape, dominated by endless plains, cork oaks and olive trees. Its name resulted from the aglomeration of the words "além" and "Tejo". It's home to countless castles and walled towns and to this day still has Arab influences that the rest of the country has forgotten about. The sun, the heat, and the plains make for a slower pace of life, dictated by the rythm of the earth.
